Grand ambitions or practical reality?

The Fisker Karma is still MIA, but that hasn't stopped the company from having grand ambitions.

According to CEO Henrik Fisker, engineers are developing a new gearbox that will give their range-extended electric vehicles "[ Bugatti] Veyron levels of performance." That's not much to go off, but the executive hinted the transmission would increase the amount of torque that is sent to the wheels.

BMW USA has annouced it will be offering the same Performance Edition package on the 135i as it does for the 3-Series' 335i variant.

The package includes a Stage 1 power kit which provides a modest increase of 20 PS (15 kW / 20 bhp) and 43 Nm (32 lb-ft) of torque on the 3.0 liter inline-six unit. Total output comes in at 326 PS (240 kW / 322 bhp) on the Performance Edition-equipped 135i. Other features of the package include black kidney grilles and Performance Edition badging.

Hyundai has quietly unveiled the 2012 Sonata facelift in South Korea.

Virtually indistinguishable from the current model, the car features a revised grille, restyled mirrors, LED taillights and new 18-inch alloy wheels. Interior changes are also minor, but include higher quality materials, revised trim and a cooled glovebox.

New supercar will aim to reclaim SSC's title as maker of the world's fastest production car

Shelby Supercars has named its next creation - meet the SSC Tuatara.

The name, as it is explained in the video above featuring company found Jerod Shelby, is derived from the Maori name for a certain type of lizard native to New Zealand. This reptile has the fastest evolving DNA of any creature, hence, SSC chose it for the newly christened Tuatara in order to communicate how much the car has changed from its predecessor - the SSC Ultimate Aero.

To promote the launch of the MiTo 1.3 JTDM-2, Alfa Romeo has enlisted Louise Dear to create an art car.

It was touring time in the 2010 5 Series GT recently, which is supposedly what this car is made to do. Over the Memorial Day weekend, I hopped in the 5 GT and high-tailed it to Tempe, Arizona, for some family time. I was driving solo, with roughly 400 miles behind the wheel door-to-door.

Old school styling, modern performance

Singer has announced plans to team up with Cosworth and Aria to develop an improved version of their retro-inspired Porsche 911.

Cosworth will provide three different air-cooled engines: a 3.6-liter with 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS), a 3.9-liter with 380 hp (283 kW / 385 PS) and a 3.9- or 4.0-liter with more than 425 hp (317 kW / 431 PS). On the other hand, the Aria Group will produce carbon fiber bodies that evoke "the classic road racing 911s of the '60's and '70's."

Toyota made the surprise announcement today that the company expects to beat 2010 sales figures of the Toyota Prius. The news surprised analysts as the automaker barely has a one day supply of Prius models at dealerships.
